The water, and the sky, and the mountains, and I

I think I’ll ask my husband to drive me to the lake

So, I may sit and watch the waves, and soothe this damn heartache

I think I’ll ask him to pack a basket of fruits and snacks and drinks

You think he may say yes if I ask him with a wink?

I think I’ll also ask him to bring the lounging chairs

And maybe even the pop-up tent to sleep away my cares

And maybe we’ll stay right there, just near the water’s brink

And chat, and talk, and reminisce, and joke, and laugh, and think

I think I’ll ask my husband to leave me here awhile

You think he might agree if I ask him with a smile?

I’ll quiet my thoughts and fears that live inside my head

Mountains and sky - my blankets, the very ground - my bed

“It’s only just to rest", I'll say before we bid good-bye

The water, and the sky, and the mountains, and I
