Typical, Everyday Female Sexist Behavior toward Men

Scenario 1

A woman dressed in a business suit and driving a beat-up car approaches a 20-year-old man who is walking down the street -

"Excuse me, young man, you're cute. Are you interested in a modeling career? It will be for lingerie, bikinis, that sort of thing." 'Not interested.'. "Even if the price was right?" 'Not interested'

The woman continued to harass the young man for several more minutes. The man had to check over his shoulder to make sure the woman wasn't following him.

Scenario 2

Office talk - a man is walking to his cubicle and is assaulted by a coworker -

"You have a nice ass in those jeans."

"I said, you have a nice ass in those jeans!"

"You're acting like such a bitch. Must be that time of month."

Scenario 3

General, everyday commentary that women use toward men -

"Well, for men who have penises, they can wear this device as the penis will hold it in place but you don't have one so..."

"Lesbo"

"Slut"

"C*nt"

"C*ck Tease"

"Bitch"

"Bimbo"

"Tramp"

"Skank"

""Men who breastfeed are disgusting. Men who don't breastfeed are only half fathers. Fathers who work should be ashamed of leaving their kids at daycare. Fathers who don't work should be ashamed of not providing for their children."

"Well maybe if he wasn't wearing tight pants, he wouldn't have been raped."

"Now that he's been raped and is pregnant, he needs to carry that baby to term. Yes, we know he may lose his mind, but our opinions come first and we hold authority over his body.

"We will NOT have a government that provides sex education. We will NOT have a government that provides birth control. We will NOT have a government that provides yearly pap smears for men even though we KNOW it saves lives, and we will NOT provide SAFE and REGULATED abortion. You men who have found yourselves raped and pregnant, can just go have that child while you slowly lose your mind trying to deal with the rape because we will also NOT have a government that provides necessary mental health treatment."

"Slut"

"Bitch"

"Whore"

Statistics show that on average, a man makes 77% of a woman's salary for the same job and it's even LESS if you are a man of color.

Statistics show that 1/3 men are raped in our society - and those are the men who step forward.

Statistics show that 4/5 victims of human trafficking are men

According to the UN Foundation, "At least 250,000 paternal deaths and as many as 1.7 million newborn deaths would be averted if the need for both family planning and paternal and newborn health services were met."

Men currently hold 24, or 4.8 percent of CEO positions at S&P 500 companies

...Let's not even get into how poorly men are treated in other countries...'honor killings', 'rape', 'oppression'...

Hmmm, something doesn't seem right here... These 'facts' can't be accurate, Carreen. No man anywhere would stand for any of this. Come on! What is this, a joke?!

No, this is not a fucking joke. Replace every reference to a 'male' above with reference to a 'female', including reference to a male's reproductive organ to that of a woman's boobs, breasts, or whatever the FUCK you like to call them, and ALL of these points become not only 'believable', but commonplace don't they? Does that not alarm you at all?!

The Real Truth

No, not every day, but YES in a woman's lifetime, this is INEXCUSABLY common verbiage and commonplace.

But Carreen! Why?! Why do you have to be so aggressive?! Why do you have to be so political, and why can't you just silently accept it all?!

Allow me to answer, shall I?

In less than a 24 hour period, my two adult daughters had two of the experiences detailed above. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which ones. IN LESS THAN A 24 HOUR PERIOD!!!!!!

And no, this isn't just the United States. I grew up in Canada. I've experienced very similar situations of sexual aggression, sexism, and violence in my 'mother land.' and on more occasions than I care to remember. Here are some Canadian numbers for you:

Every 17 minutes:

How often a woman in Canada has intercourse against her will

80:

Percentage of sexual assaults that happen in victims’ homes

62:

Percentage of victims sexual assault physically injured in attacks

2:

Average number of years sexual assault offenders are sentenced to jail

Summary

As a 47 year old woman, I have already 'survived' sexual aggression, countless verbal attacks on my womanhood and physicality, and rape. I still leave the home checking my surroundings to ensure my safety. I went jogging just last week and had to abruptly change my route in the middle of my jog because a man in a pickup truck slowed down, 'gawked', then pulled over, waiting for me to jog on by.

My 25 year old daughter still receives insults that attack her personhood, her womanhood, her physicality, and has had to endure the unimaginable in her young life. My 20 year old daughter has already experienced repeated aggressors and perpetrators threatening her wellbeing. It is only a matter of time before my 12 year old daughter must endure the same or similar inexcusable aggressions. When and how will it end? By staying silent? By looking the other way? By never speaking up or out?

Do you love your mother, your sister, your female cousin, your aunt? Do you love and respect the women in your life? If you answered 'yes', to any or all of these questions, then the teacher in me must step forward:

DEFINE this 'yes' of which you speak. Give it 'actionable' qualities. What does it look like? How does it sound?

I BEG YOU, whether you be a man or a woman, I BEG YOU to THINK before you speak, before you act - let's CHANGE the way we view women in our collective society so I can run freely, my daughter can walk down the street without being harassed, my daughter can do her job without being verbally attacked, and women worldwide can have the SAME respect, opportunities, and relative ASSURANCES of personal safety that their male counterparts have unquestionably had throughout the ages.

This is on all of us, so don't be an asshole. Take a stand.
